OK - so a lot has happened since I last sat down to write the blog. My husband got a new job and we've moved house.

The house needs a lot of work to bring it up to standard, as does the garden, so rather than tackle the boxes of unpacking that we have to do - we have started on the garden - of course. The garden has to be sorted as I ordered a new purple eglu cube and this is going to be delivered on the 24th of September. To go with the eglu is a run, but we are building this ourselves (one of the conditions of the new house was that it has a large enough garden to fit in lots more chickens!) - so this weekend was the first of many to build the run.

First was location - where in the 150ft garden would the run go - it can't be too far away from the house as I need to see the girls, but can't be too close too - as they can start to smell, and also if they are right next to the house I have no idea what we'd do with the rest of garden. So we promptly opted to use the space that was taken up by a little hedge.

Next went to Wickes and bought all of the wood, fixtures and fittings we needed to build the run. A lot of money later, and one car taken home minus me but filled with wood, and the other car picking me up with 3x2M lengths of drain pipe (why on earth we thought 4M of drainpipe would fit in car I shall never know) - we were home and ready to start.

Tom tackled the strimming round where the bonfire was (I'll explain more later), and I tackled the hedge.....

After 2 hours the hedge was almost out - however we then discovered it had been planted in an old pond, so Tom had to move loads of slabs to build it properly. While he was doing this I decided to be useful and saw down some branches of an apple tree (I was not useful at all - doubled the work load for Sunday - but hey).

So - Saturday the hedge was out. Sunday - we decided we needed a wood shredder - so off to Homebase where we spent far to much as usual - to buy a shredder. We get home - Tom installs it in the garden and I set to work on the hedge and branches - 3 very long hours later and they were done.

Tom in the meantime managed to make one of the side panels for the run. It's going to be 4.8M x 3.6M - so plenty of space for the girls and their new friends that they don't yet know about!
